Anti-ageing dermal fillers are the non-surgical route clients can take to boost the way they look and feel, whilst allowing them to achieve a long lasting younger look and to volume tired lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can prevent or reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows, give rise to sunken cheeks and help to highlight and contour your facial appearance. Dermal fillers are made from Hyaluronic acid; a natural substance found in the body. Hyaluronic acid has excellent viscoelasticity, a high moisture retention capacity and a high bio compatibility and is used in a range of medical applications, cosmetics, and nutraceuticals. When hyaluronic acid is injected into the skin, it inflates and cushions the skin to support, define and create facial contour, whilst volumising and restoring elasticity. It also restores and holds water to the surface of skin to maintain more moisture. As the skin ages, it loses the collagen that helps shape and support it, as lines and wrinkles appear to deepen over time. UV light exposure, cigarette smoking, air pollution and stress can all age the skins strength and flexibility, as the face begins to lose volume resulting in a sunken cheek or a ‘dragged down’ facial appearance. Dermal fillers are mainly used in the lower face. Deep folds in the nose lip and chin region can all be smoothed out, most commonly nasolabial folds, marionette lines and smoker’s lines.

Areas that are commonly treated on the face include:

Lips
Nose to mouth lines – Nasolabial folds
Mouth to chin lines – Marionette Lines
Peri oral lines – Smokers lines
Nose
Jawline
Cheeks
Tear troughs
Chin
Mouth corners & dimples
Scars

The overall cosmetic indications for the injection of dermal filler into these areas are:

Fine lines and aged skin in general.
Superficial and deep wrinkles.
Volumizing natural features.
Repairing damaged skin (smoker’s lines).
Filling scars (acne/trauma/surgical scars).

Injections of dermal filler with hyaluronic acid rarely lead to any complications and there have been no deaths ever reported, however needle marks, bruising and swelling must be expected and can differ from person to person.

The effects of dermal filler are apparent immediately after the treatment but swelling must reside (~7 days) prior to the final inspection of results. In cases of unevenness or the requirement of more product insertion, swelling must subside before the decision to add more filler.

Effects of dermal filler generally lasts for 6-12 months, however can depend on the individuals rate of metabolism and on how fast the hyaluronic acid is absorbed. With repeated treatment the effects tend to last longer and clients can have injections of dermal filler every 4-12 months to help them maintain results.

Our Clinic use the top range Dermal fillers available on the market such as Juvederm®, Restylane® and Teosyal®. A new generation of HA dermal filler has been developed, which contains local anaesthetic as an ancillary active substance to enhance patient comfort during and after the procedure.
